Gaynor – you have summed up The Oyster Box perfectly. I occasionally pop in for a drink, overlooking the famous lighthouse, with my best friend of 40 years! She lives in La Lucia, I in Gauteng … So our visits there are special to us. Will be back this Christmas holiday. Thank you for reminding me of things to look forward to! Shelley

G, yes the Oyster Box has just got the correct mix of luxury combined with understated colonial splendour. I can remember the “old” hotel where my parents took the family on holiday in the 50’s. We stayed in a garden rondavel. My mom somehow lost her magnificent diamond ring on the path to our room and someone?? found it and returned it to her, much to everyone’s relief and delight. Being a North Coaster for many years the “box” was a regular eating and drinking hole. Thanks for reviving some pleasant memories.

The Oyster Box brings back so many memories to Peter and I. We had our wedding reception there in 1972, and my parents often stayed at the hotel when Dad came down from Pretoria on business. It really does have an awe about it.Hotel!
