Ouch – so sad. Thanks for the alert, Gaynor, and let’s keep looking for effective ways of protesting.
I was in the Plett area in July, but didn’t have/make time to see the elephants – saved that for next time. Now I’m glad I didn’t go, at least to that establishment. If/when I go back, I’ll do a good background check on the elephant parks before I visit.
Elephants and other wildlife are not our toys or pets, We are all of a piece: hurting them hurts us much more than we choose to see most of the time. So thanks again for posting.

Well done, Gaynor ! So glad I didn’t take my overseas friends there when they visited the area – took them to the Elephant Sanctuary near the Crags outside Plettenberg Bay – I didn’t see any signs of abuse there – I think it’s a “holding” place for traumatised elephants.

I recently read a fantastic book from the George Library called “The Elephant’s Secret Sense – The hidden Life of the Wild Herds of Africa’ by Caitlin O’Connell. This book is a must-read, very informative and educational.
